Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Antioch, TN.

One of the out-patient rehabilitation alternatives for people in Antioch who are struggling with opioid dependence and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed facilities and doctors are authorized to dispense certain meds to opioid addicted individuals, many of which are opioid-based themselves and are addictive. With low amounts the client does not experience high feelings and also doesn't experience intense cravings and is not in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication used for this sole purpose, but there are other options to choose from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an out-patient medical center licensed to dispense the drug, which is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is around $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But different from Methadone which can only be administered in highly structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is about three hundred dollars /month for the generic version of the medication. There is also a type of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a med that reverses the effects of opiates. An individual taking this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and costs approximately $450 per month. Naltrexone is another med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it is an opiate blocker and isn't an opiate. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
