DWI clients in treatment need to complete specific requirements to fulfill the terms of their sentencing. Treatment programs which help fulfill these court requirements and terms, which are usually far more lenient than regular sentencing which would include large fines and jail time, are available in Como to deliver alcohol education, therapy, and additional assessment for serious alcohol or drug issues.
Education is an essential treatment tool used at rehabs treating DWI offenders. There are various levels of alcohol education classes and this can vary by state. Level I education typically include 12 hours of group education related to the effects and dangers of drugs and/or alcohol. This is the what a person with a first conviction or someone under the age of 21 will usually be required to do. Level II DWI classes would include both education and group therapy at a program which is approved by the courts. How long a person will be required to be in therapy depends on certain factors, which can include how many DWI's the offender has had, and the seriousness of the violation. Most often clients will be sentenced to the Level II DWI classes and therapy unless their blood-alcohol content was extremely low when they were arrested and there weren't any other significant infractions when the individual was arrested.
