There is also a type of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a med which reverses the effects of opiates. A person consuming this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken daily, and costs about $450 per month. Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it is an opioid blocker and is not an opiate. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents a person from experience being high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
