Intensive outpatient treatment, also known as "IOP", is a form of treatment for a substance abuse problem that is considerably more involved and comprehensive than a normal outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is an essential action for individuals in Lebanon who have recently completed residential or inpatient treatment, and still require adequate support and intervention while they progress to a sober and ethical lifestyle. IOP's consist of treatment which occurs more frequently than conventional outpatient, where clients will take part in the treatment usually once or twice a week unless otherwise adjudicated.
Intensive outpatient treatment typically involves group and sometimes individualized counseling and therapy sessions to continue to work on the individual's addiction. Individual sessions may occur at least once a week, and group sessions will provide the peer support that is often crucial for long term sobriety. In intensive outpatient treatment, focus is placed on building relapse prevention skills, managing every day challenges and vulnerabilities, and how to manage any lingering withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Some intensive outpatient treatment programs incorporate family and couples/marriage counseling into the treatment process, which can be beneficial for individuals who must rebuild their relationships with their families and loved ones.
