Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Williamsport, TN.

One of the outpatient treatment options for individuals in Williamsport battling with opioid abuse and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed centers and doctors are authorized to administer specific meds to opioid dependent individuals, many that are opioids themselves and are habit forming. In low enough amounts however, the individual doesn't experience high feelings but also doesn't experience acute cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication administered for this reason, but there are alternative options currently to select from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an outpatient medical center certified to dispense the drug, which is taken daily in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is approximately $150 a month. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based drug, and is in pill form often taken one day on, one day off. But different from Methadone that can only be administered in structured medical centers, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is about just under $300 a month for the generic version of the med. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, that is a med which blocks the effects of opioids. Someone taking this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken every day, and is priced approximately $450 a month. Naltrexone is another medication taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned it is an opioid blocker and isn't an opiate. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from experience being high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
