Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - ARP, TX.

There are addiction programs offered in or near ARP which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally not become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't at the same time making them feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do provide a small amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary treatment, and it is encouraged.
