Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Brazoria, TX.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Brazoria that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will instead no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment objective is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and it is encouraged.
