There are addiction programs offered in or near Cut and Shoot which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will instead no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to handle the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a small amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
