There are programs offered in or near Dallas that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid dependent client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.
Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications consistently so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to handle the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do deliver a small amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
