Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities - Freer, TX.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Freer that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will instead no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't at the same time making them feel high. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond this and the main treatment goal is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do provide a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary services, and it is encouraged.
