There are programs offered in or near Goodfellow AFB that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate addicted client will instead not become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms.
