At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to handle the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do provide a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
