There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a med which blocks the effects of opiates. An individual taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and costs about $450 monthly. Naltrexone is an additional med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it's an opiate blocker and is not an opiate. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents a person from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 per month.
