Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities - Hilshire Village, TX.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug use and relapse, and is used specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the drug Naltrexone, that one can get through injection once a month. It isn't addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual injects Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual drinks alcohol or takes opioids they essentially can't get drunk or high.

There are particular precautions that need to be taken before an individual is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, a person who intends to start Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for at least 7-10 days. This is including people who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking meds such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin abuser or someone who has been taking Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly can be brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least a week in order to start Vivitrol.

These medications must be used as part of a rehab program in Hilshire Village that also includes individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Speak to your therapist or Dr. about how pharmacological tools can help you build the drug-free life you want.
