The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and obtain referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can obtain drug and alcohol treatment services in Katy. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various substance abuse recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detox are limited to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members are allowed to stay in treatment.
