Medicare is a federal health insurance program that helps pay for health care for people living in the Unites States who are either disabled or 65 and older. Medicare comes in different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering different kinds of treatment.

Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A pays for inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and up to 60 days in rehab without a co-pay but individuals will be required to pay a deductible. Medicare only pays for a total of 190 days of inpatient care, this applies to the person's lifetime.

Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D pays for drug and alcohol addiction medications. Including medications associated with treating drug and alcohol withdrawal and those required for maintenance therapy such as methadone or buprenorphine.
