Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Marathon, TX.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Marathon that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate addicted client will instead no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary treatment, and it is encouraged.
