Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Matador, TX.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Matador which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate addicted client will ideally not engage in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
