Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Mcadoo, TX.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Mcadoo which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will ideally no longer engage in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to treat the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do deliver a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary services, and this is encouraged.
