Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Meadow, TX.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Meadow which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate addicted client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
