Smoking Allowed in Designated Area - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Nevada, TX.

It is estimated that around 75% of clients at residential rehab programs for drug addiction and alcoholism are smokers. While it is true that nicotine is addicting and people in any sort of treatment for addiction should strive to be abstinent from all addictive substances, this can introduce problems that make enforcing a smoking ban outweigh the advantages of this restriction. A person who is addicted to a substance that could very well kill them immediately might not get help if they have to quit smoking cigarettes, so many rehab centers in Nevada allow smoking with some limitations, restrictions and in designated areas of their facility.

Some programs permit clients to smoke anywhere, so long as it is outdoors for instance. Some facilities have a designated smoking area, which is the only area that clients can smoke. Due to the fact that nicotine is an addictive substance, even treatment facilities that allow smoking typically offer alternatives to smoking if the client wants to quit, such as nicotine replacement gum, patches and prescriptions. There are also facilities which allow smoking in designated areas, but educate clients on the health risks associated with smoking by including this into their program either by way of direct education or by offering educational literature for clients to examine. In rehab centers which allow smoking in designated areas this is sometimes only approved for clients, whereas staff are often banned from smoking at the center or are asked to not smoke in front of clients.

Publicly funded drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are bound by the rules and restrictions in regards to smoking that are imposed by state and federal agencies which oversee and administer these programs. Private rehab centers have a little more leeway and don't have as many rules imposed on them, so may be more likely to offer designated areas for smoking.
