Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Peaster, TX.

Vivitrol is a medication used to prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the medication Naltrexone, which is available through injection once a month. It isn't habit forming, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual takes Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would usually be activated by alcohol or opioids, so when someone drinks or tries to get high on opioids they basically cannot get high or drunk.

There are particular precautions that should be be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, a person who intends to begin Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for a minimum of seven to ten days. This includes people who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking drugs such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been taking Methadone for several years, quitting quickly can be very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least 7 days if they want to start Vivitrol.

These meds must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Peaster that also includes medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk to your therapist or Dr. about how pharmacological tools can help you build and maintain the drug and alcohol free life you want.
