Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities - Petrolia, TX.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Petrolia which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will instead no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment objective is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a small amount of counseling and therapy as secondary treatment, and this is encouraged.
