Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Sylvester, TX.

There are programs offered in or near Sylvester that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will instead no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
