Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers - Tarpley, TX.

Vivitrol is a med used to help prevent drug abuse and relapse, and is administered specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended-release type of the med Naltrexone, which one can get via injection once a month. It isn't addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual takes Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when someone takes a drink of alcohol or takes opioids they essentially can't get drunk or high.

There are certain safety measures that need to be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. Firstly, someone who plans to start Vivitrol needs to have abstained from opioids for at least seven to ten days. This is including individuals who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given medications like Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin addict or someone who has been on Methadone for a long time, abrupt cessation can be very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least 7 days if they want to start Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used in conjunction with an addiction treatment program in Tarpley which also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk to your therapist or Dr. in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you maintain and build the drug-free life you want.
