DWI clients in rehab need to complete specific requirements to satisfy the conditions of their court sentencing. Treatment programs that help fulfill these demands and conditions, which are typically more lenient than normal sentencing such as large fines and incarceration, are available in West to deliver alcohol education, group counseling, and further evaluation for clients with serious drug or alcohol problems.
Education is a fundamental tool used at rehab programs treating DWI offenders. There are different levels of alcohol education which can vary by state. Level I education generally consist of 12 hours of education about the effects and dangers of drugs and/or alcohol. This is the what a person with a first offense or someone under 21 will ordinarily be required to complete. Level II DWI classes would consist of both education and group therapy at a program which is approved by the courts. How long a person will need to be in therapy depends on certain considerations, which can include the number of DWI's the individual has had, and the severity of the violation. In most cases, clients will be sentenced to the Level II DWI classes and therapy except for when their blood-alcohol level was very low when they were stopped and there were no other serious infractions when the person was arrested.
