Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Wilson, TX.

Vivitrol is a drug mainly administered to help prevent drug use and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended release type of the med Naltrexone, which one can get via injection once a month. It isn't addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone takes Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be triggered by opioids or alcohol, so when someone drinks alcohol or takes opioids they basically can't get high or drunk.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. Firstly, a client who intends to begin Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for at least 7-10 days. This includes individuals who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given meds such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin abuser or someone who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly is brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of seven days in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Wilson that also includes medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk to your doctor or therapist in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you build and maintain the sober life you want.
