SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Bedford, VA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications prescribed are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation facilities in Bedford are programs that are legally allowed to dispense the medicines used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab program can get their initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation facility is certified, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of certification it has been given.
