The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Drug prescribed are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment programs in Bluemont are programs that are legally permitted to give out the drugs used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive ancillary benefits aside from medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehabilitation center can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of accreditation it has been given.
