The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to advance the mental health of the nation. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are programs that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Boykins are programs who are officially permitted to dispense the drugs used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. An opioid rehab facility can receive basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehab program is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of accreditation it has been given.
