SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Cardinal, VA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are centers that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Cardinal are programs which are officially permitted to give out the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary services aside from medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment facility can get their basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the kind of certification that was given.
