SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Programs - Check, VA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to advance the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its obligations is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Check are programs which are officially allowed to give out the medications used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary services in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment program can receive initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years contingent upon the kind of certification that was given.
