The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to advance the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Deerfield are programs who are officially allowed to distribute the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive ancillary services in addition to medication like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab center can receive basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the type of certification it has been granted.
