The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent people.
