SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Independence, VA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab centers in Independence are programs who are officially permitted to dispense the medicines used in MAT being they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary benefits aside from medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation center can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehab facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of accreditation it has been given.
