SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs - Petersburg, VA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the mental health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid treatment programs, which are centers who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation facilities in Petersburg are programs which are legally permitted to give out the medications used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medicine like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment facility can get their basic approval documentation while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab facility is certified, it must be re-certified each year or every three years contingent upon the type of certification it has been given.
