SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs - Powhatan, VA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to advance the mental health of the nation. One of its duties is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation facilities in Powhatan are programs which are legally permitted to distribute the medications used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation facility can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment center is certified, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of certification that was granted.
