The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and obtain referrals to organizations that offer specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can receive substance abuse rehabilitation services in Radford. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various substance abuse recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detox are restricted to no more than 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military members will be permitted to stay in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is typically allowed.
