SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs - Rescue, VA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its duties is the administering of opioid treatment programs, which are centers that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Rescue are programs who are officially permitted to give out the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary services aside from medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation program can receive basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the kind of accreditation it has been given.
