SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Somerville, VA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the United States. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine prescribed are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation facilities in Somerville are programs which are legally permitted to dispense the medicines used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary benefits in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab program can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years depending on the type of certification it has been granted.
