SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Surry, VA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab centers in Surry are programs which are officially allowed to dispense the medications used in MAT being they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medicine like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment center can get their initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment center is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the kind of accreditation that was granted.
