SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Virginia State University, VA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation facilities in Virginia State University are programs that are legally permitted to distribute the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get ancillary services aside from medication like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab center can get their initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab facilities authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years contingent upon the kind of accreditation that was given.
