The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the behavioral health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are programs who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab facilities in Warsaw are programs who are legally permitted to distribute the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab facility can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of accreditation that was granted.
