SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs - Waterford, VA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medicine prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Waterford are programs which are officially permitted to give out the medications used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get auxiliary services aside from medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment center can get their initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the kind of certification it has been granted.
