There are both inpatient and outpatient drug rehab, but there are some types of outpatient drug and alcohol treatment in Yale from which to choose. Regular outpatient rehab is not invasive and clients can usually go to counseling and therapy a few times a week. Comprehensive outpatient programs offer counseling and therapy similar to regular outpatient, but on a more intensive schedule which also allows time for work and family life.
One outpatient drug rehab option referred to as Day Treatment or Partial Hospitalization is said to be the most intensive type of outpatient treatment available. Clients can return to a sober-living program or home every day, but will spend most of the day involved in outpatient rehab services. Day treatment and partial hospitalization outpatient alcohol or drug treatment is ideal for people who have recently completed an inpatient program, but still need to maintain a strong system of support while becoming more confident about a sober lifestyle. These programs also usually offer a broader spectrum of services that regular outpatient may not provide, including alternative therapies, medication management, and dual-diagnosis treatment.
It isn't uncommon for clients in outpatient drug or alcohol rehab or following rehab in outpatient drug treatment to have a relapse. In these cases inpatient treatment would ideally be the next step.
