The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Drug administered are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Eden Mills are programs who are officially permitted to give out the drugs used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get ancillary services aside from medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab program can get their initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the type of certification that was granted.
