Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Marlboro, VT.

There are programs offered in or near Marlboro which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will instead no longer engage in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel high. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do deliver a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
