The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the mental health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients.
