The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its obligations is the oversight of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Bothell are programs which are officially permitted to dispense the drugs used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get auxiliary services in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
An opioid rehab facility can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of certification that was granted.
