American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to need treatment for drug and alcohol abuse and addiction. Reversely, American Indians and Alaska Natives are more prone to seek treatment on their own will more than other racial/ethnic groups. Almost 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native drug and alcohol treatment admissions show up to rehab as criminal justice clients, meaning they have very likely agreed to a diversion option to go to rehab in lieu of jail time. So as you can see, there is definitely a need for a variety of service types to cover all of the various requirements of American Indian or Alaska Natives, including addiction rehabilitation services in native languages.
